Privacy Policy
Last updated 31 August 2026
7 Clan (“7 Clan”, “we”, “us”) helps families build a shared family tree and preserve their history together. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to 7clan.com and the 7 Clan app. If you don’t agree with it, please don’t use 7 Clan.
1. Who this data is about
A family tree is unusual: much of what you add is about other people — your parents, grandparents, cousins, and ancestors, living and deceased. Some of them are not 7 Clan users and have not signed up. You are responsible for the information you add about others, and for having a reasonable basis to share it (see our Terms). If someone asks to be removed, we will help — see “Your choices” below.
2. Information we collect
- Account — your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email and profile picture from Google; we never receive your Google password.
- Family tree data you add — names, relationships, dates and places of birth/marriage/death, life details, notes, and the connections between people.
- Photos and media — images you upload for a person or event.
- Voices — if you use the recording feature, the audio you record, the transcript we generate from it, and the short stories extracted from it.
- Usage data — basic logs (pages viewed, actions taken, device/browser, IP address, timestamps) used to run and improve the service and keep it secure.
- Cookies — a session cookie to keep you signed in, and minimal local storage for preferences (e.g. a collapsed menu). We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
3. How we use it
- Provide the service — build and display your family tree to you and the relatives you share it with.
- Send you sign-in links, service notices, and (if you opt in) family digests.
- Transcribe and summarise recordings you make, and attach the resulting stories to the right person.
- Power the optional Family Butler — answering questions about your tree.
- Keep 7 Clan secure, prevent abuse, debug, and improve features.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your family data to train third-party advertising models.
4. Sharing within your family
7 Clan is collaborative. By design, the relatives you invite to your tree can see and edit the tree, including people and details you added. Changes are versioned so edits can be reviewed and undone. Private notes you mark as private are visible only to you. Think of the tree as a shared family document — add accordingly.
5. Service providers we use
We rely on a small number of trusted processors to run 7 Clan. They handle data on our behalf under contract:
- Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
- Neon — the managed Postgres database that stores your tree.
- Google — “Sign in with Google” authentication (only if you use it).
- Resend — sending sign-in links and email notifications.
- Google Cloud Storage — storing photos and recordings.
- AI providers — we use large-language-model and speech-to-text services to transcribe recordings, summarise them into stories, and power the Family Butler. Only the content needed for the request is sent, and we use providers that do not train their public models on it.
These providers operate in various countries, so your information may be processed outside the country where you live (including the United States, the EU, Singapore and elsewhere). We take steps to ensure it stays protected in transit and at rest.
6. Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account and tree are active. If you delete a person, a photo, or your whole tree, we remove it from the live service; residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before they age out. Close your account and we will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep something to comply with law.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. In 7 Clan you can:
- Edit or delete any person, photo, note, or story you can access in your tree.
- Delete your tree or close your account.
- Ask us to remove information about a specific individual, or to help someone who asks to be removed.
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
To make a request, email hello@7clan.com. We may need to verify your identity first.
8. Children
7 Clan is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and they may not create an account. Families may include children as people in a tree; if you believe a child’s information has been added improperly, contact us and we will address it.
9. Security
We use encryption in transit, database-level access controls, scoped credentials, and least-privilege access to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your family’s history safe and will notify you and the authorities of a breach where the law requires.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as 7 Clan evolves. We’ll change the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, give you notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use 7 Clan after a change means you accept it.
